Chicago: A Chicago man is charged with armed robbery after allegedly pulling a gun on a woman who questioned “inconsistencies” in the Cadillac he was trying to sell her in another Facebook Marketplace transaction gone wrong.

It’s the most recent illustration of the dangers associated with carrying cash and belongings to an online meeting with a stranger.

Cedric Dupree, 56, who had the occupation “Preacher Man” on his Chicago police arrest report, is accused by prosecutors of listing his Cadillac for sale on Facebook and setting up a meeting with a 26-year-old lady who expressed interest in purchasing it.

To close the deal, they met at approximately 1:50 p.m. on June 23 in the 7300 block of South Dante. However, the woman examined the car and brought up several issues with Dupree, according to the prosecution in a detention petition.

According to the petition, Dupree responded by drawing a pistol and demanding all of the woman’s belongings, including the $1,500 she had brought with her to purchase the automobile. Prosecutors claimed that once he had her money, he got into the Cadillac and drove off.

Dupree faces charges related to armed robbery using a handgun. Judge Charles Beach, however, turned down the state’s motion for incarceration. He set a curfew for the evening and let Dupree return home to await his trial. The judge pointed out that Dupree’s criminal history is rather dated, with convictions for armed robbery in 1985, deceptive theft in 1997, and stalking and assault in 2014.

When the 24-year-old man went to the 2900 block of North Lincoln yesterday afternoon to purchase a phone that was being advertised for sale online, he was robbed at gunpoint. According to authorities, a woman came out of a building, pointed a gun, and stole from him when he got there. A description of the suspect was not made public by the police.

Prosecutors filed charges against a man and woman last week for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint on February 1, when she came to sell one of them a Razr+ phone.

One of the robbers gave her a frown and said, “Get the f*** out of Chicago,” before grabbing Herazor+r+ and running away.
