DMV Weather Alert! Prepare For Isolated Severe Storms On Thursday

WASHINGTON  —

By Thursday, a strong storm system that has caused a “Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch” for parts of the Midwest will be approaching the Washington, D.C. region.

There is a risk for an isolated strong to severe storm on Thursday afternoon, even though we do not anticipate a broad severe weather outbreak similar to what is occurring in Iowa.

Hail, damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph, and isolated downpours that cause flooding are the primary risks to be mindful of.

Severe storm danger is most likely to be found south and west of Interstate 66.

The unpredictability of the weather will persist into the holiday weekend. After Thursday, there won’t be as many serious threats, but until Memorial Day, everyday afternoon showers and thunderstorms are still likely.
