CCG – The problem—which was later linked to a misplaced check—was promptly fixed after the California Attorney General’s Office declared that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s Archewell Foundation was in arrears. Governor Gavin Newsom of California commended Harry and Meghan’s work through the foundation shortly after the news emerged.
“There has been [an] unbelievable amount of attention that has been placed on the Archewell Foundation,” Newsom said during a press conference on Tuesday. “I am here at a behavioral health site, a mental health site,” he said. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Foundation does amazing work, especially [with] women and girls, but especially around mental health.”
“I just want folks to know, not only are they in compliance, but it was a technical paperwork issue that was wildly overhyped,” the governor continued.
“With all due respect, I hope people who ran those headlines ran this headline: It was a very typical, technical issue around paperwork that persists for so many others as well. They are a well-known company that accomplishes fantastic work in the state of California, and they are fully compliant. I simply felt there was a tiny bit of a piling-on that was unjust to that charity, so I wanted to make that clear because it’s vital.

“We have carefully investigated the situation and can confirm that the Archewell Foundation remains fully compliant and in good standing,” an Archewell Foundation spokeswoman said in a statement.
All required payments were made on time and in compliance with IRS policies and guidelines. Moreover, the charity had correctly and completely filed all required documentation.
In 2020, the Archewell Foundation was established by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “Show Up, Do Good” is the nonprofit’s motto; according to its website, “We believe in the power of community as a transformative solution for our collective well-being.”
