Columbus, Ohio – Following reports of an uptick in theft, Kroger is now verifying receipts at many stores in Columbus.

One of the organization’s basic values is safety, according to Mark Bruce, a spokeswoman for the corporation who confirmed the new precaution on Sunday.

Six different Kroger locations are affected by the safety measure, which has already been implemented:

1001 East Main Street, Columbus; 150 West Sycamore Street; 1350 North High Street; 1745 Morse Road; 3600 Soldano Blvd.; 3637 South High Street; Columbus; 10TV has reported on several shootings and thefts at the Krogers on the list.

Bruce remarked, “Even though we are just starting out, our associates and customers have given us positive feedback.”

It is not a novel idea to use receipt checks. For years, Costco and Sam’s Club, two other massive grocery stores, have been keeping an eye on their customers’ receipts in an effort to prevent theft and maintain cheap prices.
