A horrific triple-fatal crash that happened on Highway 101 (US-101) late Sunday night is being actively investigated by officials from the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Humboldt Area Office. A head-on collision that was quite damaging was caused by the driver who was traveling in the wrong direction.
At 10:37 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, the CHP reported that the CHP Humboldt Communications Center (HCC) got a concerning complaint stating that a 2015 Toyota Tacoma was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of US-101.
Just six minutes later, at 10:43 p.m., the HCC received another report about a head-on incident that occurred on southbound US-101 close to Metropolitan Road. Teams of emergency responders arrived on the site quite quickly.

When the responders arrived, they saw a dismal scene: a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 and a 2015 Toyota Tacoma were destroyed by fire, blocking all southbound lanes. Medical professionals at the site verified the awful result, ascertaining that the Tacoma’s driver—who is yet unidentified—had perished in the crash.
Even more upsetting, emergency personnel declared the driver and passenger of the Mercedes Benz—who are both unidentified at this time—dead. Emergency personnel had more difficulties as a result of the collision’s intense aftermath, which was characterized by fire.
The CHP is actively investigating the potential that drugs or alcohol played a role in the tragedy as they painstakingly attempt to piece together the events leading up to this tragic crash.
