Houston, Texas: Luke Delaney, a native of Florida, joined NASA on Tuesday as one of its newest astronauts. At the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, he received his diploma together with nine other American candidates. Two UAE candidates graduated as well.

Delaney crossed the graduating stage following over two years of intense training. He claims that from an early age, he developed an interest in space.
He remarked, “I was exposed to the space industry growing up in Central Florida, where I watched shuttle launches.” “I think at some level down there, when you live close enough, you see the launches (and it) piques your interest.”
He claimed that the largest obstacle to becoming an astronaut was not knowing how to get there. Following high school, Delaney pursued degrees in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Before working as a research pilot at NASA’s Langley Research Center, he was a Navy aviator.
Delaney submitted two applications to the NASA Astronaut Training Program. He was chosen for the 2021 class since the second time proved to be the lucky charm.

It’s just a matter of how you get back up and move on,” he remarked. “So, I feel like a lot of it for me was just pursuing my passions for aviation, Marine Corps service, engineering, all those passions, just kind of lined up.”
The astronaut class has been involved in a variety of activities over the last few years, including flying jets, analyzing space station operations, and completing wilderness and water survival training.
“I hadn’t done much, if anything, in Wyoming before, and the Outdoor Leadership School that they conduct there, I believe, put us out in the Wyoming mountains for at least ten days,” stated Delaney. “And we covered like 30 miles from a drop-off point to a pickup point.”
On Tuesday, the culmination of all that effort occurred as Delaney and his classmates, one by one, crossed the graduation stage and were formally named astronauts. Delaney stated that he has earned his wings and that it is difficult to pinpoint his ideal mission because there is so much going on in the space sector.
“This is a difficult question for me to answer because there are so many commercial entities attempting to explore and establish space stations in low Earth orbit these days, and I could see a scenario where NASA supports commercial entities in that region in some capacity. I find the lunar expedition to be intriguing,” he remarked.
