CCG – A potential human smuggling operation was stopped by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and local, state, and federal authorities cooperating to stop illegal immigration in South Florida and the Florida Keys.

The Air and Marine Operations Center in Miami-Dade County alerted cooperating agencies of a potential people smuggling operation that was getting closer to the coast.

Following the initial stop of the vessel by the Miami-Dade Police Department, additional local, state, and federal agencies such as the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, and CBP Air and Marine Operations quickly assisted.

Two suspected human smugglers and about thirty migrants of Haitian descent were on a sixty-foot boat. After being placed under arrest, everyone was given over to the U.S. Coast Guard to be returned home. The custody of one of the alleged smugglers was given to Homeland Security Investigations.
