The injured were already receiving medical attention, according to Boston 25 News, from two off-duty nurses and an off-duty firefighter who just so happened to be nearby. Even though help arrived quickly, one of the people thrown from the SUV was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The deceased’s identity has not been disclosed until the family has been notified. Three other people were injured in the accident in addition to the deceased, according to the Georgetown Fire Department.

According to a statement from The Boston Globe, the driver—the only occupant of the sedan—and the other passenger in the SUV were sent to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Leading the investigation are the Massachusetts State Police, who are trying to determine what caused this deadly occurrence. Although the specifics of the collision are still being worked out, the aftermath led to a prolonged shutdown of the I-95 exit 78B off-ramp, which caused delays and detours for the nearby traffic. At the scene of the collision, Rowley, Newbury, Groveland, and other local fire departments and ambulance services received citations for their help.
