Georgia State Trooper Killed on Duty Now Identified, Police Reports

The trooper who died on Sunday afternoon while doing their duties has been identified by the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

Officials said that on Sunday, Jimmy Cenescar, a trooper, attempted to pull down a motorbike on Interstate 85 North near Old Peachtree Road in Atlanta due to a traffic infraction.

Cenescar’s patrol car, according to the Georgia State Patrol, veered off the road and into an embankment. When first responders arrived on the site, they made every effort to save lives.

After being sent to Northside Gwinnett Hospital, Cenescar died there. Regarding the trooper’s passing, Gov. Brian Kemp tweeted that Cenescar was “Georgia’s finest.”

After completing the 114th Trooper School, Cenescar joined the Georgia Department of Public Safety in January 2023. Before that, he worked for the Atlanta Police for three years.

Atlanta police honored Censcar’s bravery in 2021 and made body camera footage of him saving a driver who had driven off a bridge public.

50 feet down, he used his patrol car to smash through a gate and reach the driver. At the time, Cenescar remarked, “My training kicked in and I just took action and took control of the scene.”

His family is currently organizing his funeral.

It’s unknown if Cenescar has arrested the driver he was pursuing. The identity of that person is unknown.
