Save the Date City of Douglas Announces Open House Schedule for Historic WWII Barracks

The public is invited to two open houses hosted by the City of Douglas on February 9 (1 PM–4 PM) and February 21 (9 AM–1 PM) to see the improvements done to Barracks #5, which is situated at Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport.

Barracks #5, located within the historic World War II Army-Air Force Flight Training Air Base, served as housing for cadets undergoing training at the Air Base before their transfer to other sites to further their flight training.

The Historic WWII Barracks will be open for public exploration and experience of its rich history through a series of open house events, which the City of Douglas is pleased to announce. These barracks, which are tucked away in our neighborhood, are rich in historical significance and serve as a reminder of Douglas’s achievements during one of the most important junctures in contemporary history.

To house and train soldiers who bravely and devotedly served their country during World War II, the barracks were essential to the war effort. It is an honor for the City of Douglas to share this piece of history with both locals and visitors decades later.

March 8 (1 PM–4 PM), March 28 (9 AM–1 PM), April 12 (9 AM–1 PM), April 25 (1 PM–4 PM), May 10 (9 AM–1 PM), May 24 (1 PM–4 PM), June 5 (9 AM–1 PM), and June 28 (1 PM–4 PM) are the dates of the open house. There is no cost for the open house.
