Alabama Disaster Relief Offers Training to Bolster Volunteer Ranks

Birmingham, Alabama (WBRC) – Volunteers from churches are receiving disaster response training this coming weekend. When storms wreak havoc on communities locally and around the nation, the Southern Baptist Convention Alabama Disaster Relief organization regularly deploys personnel.

It’s usually necessary to walk before you can run, and this is precisely what the disaster relief team from Alabama accomplished on Friday night. The groups concentrated on learning the appropriate procedures in the classroom. Depending on your training demands, there may be some sessions together and others apart.

Morning teams will start working on Saturday. Along with learning how to use their mobile cooking units, they will also learn how to safely and properly chop down damaged trees.

This training is essential for increasing the number of volunteers for disaster assistance in Alabama.

John Hayes, District 11 Coordinator for Alabama Disaster Relief, stated, “Someone has to replace us, I mean we are not going to be here and be able to do a lot of the stuff continually, so we have to have new people coming in to carry it on.”

The next disaster relief training program for the organization is set to take place at Skyland Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa from Thursday through Saturday of next week.
