Charlotte Welcomes One of the Hottest New Black-Owned Restaurants in the US, According to Yelp

There is no shortage of delectable Black-owned restaurants in Charlotte, but one popular local eatery has been ranked among the best in the nation.

Yelp published a list of the top 25 trendy and recently opened Black-owned restaurants to support and enjoy in 2024 in honor of Black History Month. The list was compiled based on ratings, reviews, and other variables.

Only one Charlotte restaurant—Uptown Yolk—made the list of all the well-liked Black-owned eateries in the country.

The neighborhood restaurant has been a mainstay in the Charlotte region for many years, having moved from Rock Hill to the 7th Street Public Market, now known as The Market at 7th Street, and is currently located in South End.

Uptown Yolk in Charlotte’s South End has reopened after a two-year break.

Uptown Yolk, run by chef Gregory Collier, a four-time James Beard nominee, and his wife, Sabrina, are well-known for their menu, which draws inspiration from Memphis’s culinary scene. There are several dishes such as sweet potato waffles and shrimp and grits.

Uptown Yolk has brunch alternatives. Simon Taylor. As reported by CharlotteFive, the restaurant launched a supper service, including new appetizers, locally brewed beers on tap, creative cocktails, and more.

Modern Southern cuisine is the foundation of Uptown Yolk. Therefore, it makes logical to include filling supper items along with a few extra sandwiches, sides, and PM hours, as Subrina Collier had previously stated.

Apart from Uptown Yolk, another restaurant in North Carolina that made Yelp’s list of the best Black-owned restaurants in the United States is Zweli’s Ekhaya, an upscale Southern African restaurant in Durham that came in at number twelve.
