Local Coffee County Resident Arrested for Alleged Child Exploitation

Lonnie Smith, 32, of Coffee County, Georgia, has been placed under arrest on suspicion of abusing children. After looking into Smith’s online activity, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit was able to capture him on February 5, 2024.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) provided information that prompted the investigation regarding Smith’s possible role in the dissemination of obscene material featuring kids.

Smith was taken into custody after a search warrant was carried out at his home. In this operation, the GBI CEACC Unit received assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith was sent to the Coffee County Jail following his arrest. This investigation is a component of the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force’s broader effort to locate and detain those responsible for these crimes.

A U.S. Department of Justice initiative called the ICAC Task Force was created to address the surge in predatory and child-exploitation activities occurring online. It is a part of the GBI’s Computer Crimes and Child Exploitation Unit.
