Many Years Later, Police Still Probing 2017 Fatal Shooting of Teen in East Columbus

Columbus, Ohio – A 2017 killing in east Columbus is being investigated by Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, and they are requesting assistance from the public.

The incident occurred on June 29, 2017, just before two in the morning, at the intersection of East Main Street and James Road, close to a BP petrol station. When they discovered the adolescent with several gunshot wounds, the victim’s condition was stable and they took him to Grant Medical Center.

Marquelis Barnes, 16, was discovered in the front yard of an adjacent residence with several gunshot wounds at around three in the morning. At 3:06 a.m., medical personnel declared Barnes dead.

Both victims were engaged in a fight with another group of males, according to information provided by Crime Stoppers about the police investigation. As of now, there are no known suspects.
