Save Sunlite Pool Enjoy Cheese Coneys and Make a Difference at Coney Island

This weekend, Coneys for Coney, a grassroots initiative to preserve the historic Sunlite Pool at Coney Island, will make an appearance at an Anderson Township eatery.

A group called Save Coney Islanders is committed to collaborating with Music and Events Management Inc. (MEMI), a division of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO), the current owners of the Coney Island property, to prevent the historic pool of the former amusement park from being demolished.

This week is National Chili Day, so to help in its efforts, the group is teaming up with Salem Gardens in Anderson to throw a special cheese coney fundraiser.

On Saturday, February 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., $1 from every coney purchase will go toward the Save Coney Islanders’ effort to preserve Sunlite Pool. The event’s proceeds will fund the purchase of awareness-raising promotional items such as stickers, yard signs, leaflets, and advertisements.

“Salem Gardens was established in 1926, barely a year after Sunlite Pool opened! Inside are vintage Coney photos and an antique Coney Island clock on the façade. In a press release, the organizers wrote, “Enjoy a local favorite, support a family-owned business, and help save a Cincinnati icon!”

While supplies last, yard signs and stickers will be offered at the event.

The Save Coney Islanders are also funding a documentary on Coney Island called “History In Your Backyard,” which is now in production, with money raised from previous fundraising events.
