The Clay County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina reports that multiple individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of distributing drugs to citizens of another state.

A house on Byron Road near Young Harris, Georgia, which is situated just south of the state border along Georgia Highway 66, was observed on February 7 by investigators from the Clay County NC Sheriff’s Office and the Towns County Sheriff’s Office.

others at the Georgia home were allegedly distributing illegal substances to others in North Carolina, according to the CCNCSO.

The sheriff’s office reported that around 8:20 p.m., a car drove out of the house and into North Carolina. On Old Highway 64 West, CCNCSO detectives pulled over the vehicle.

Five persons were in the car: Sandra Gail Dragoo, 68, Daniel Scott Turner, 27, Tosha Savannah Eller, 31, and Stacie Sabrina Graves, 51, all from Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina; the driver, Brianna Jean Turner, 27, was also there.

According to CCNCSO, when Turner exited the vehicle, the investigator saw a silver cup that seemed to contain fentanyl.

Investigators inspected the vehicle after everyone had exited and discovered a little plastic bag containing what they believed to be fentanyl.

While none of the residents claimed the suspected fentanyl, one acknowledged coming from the house on Byron Road in Georgia, according to the CCNCSO.

Following their arrest, all five occupants of the vehicle faced charges of felonious possession of fentanyl.

Gregory Thomas Breitenbach, 44, owned a house on Byron Road, which was searched by deputies from the Town’s County Sheriff’s Office and the CCNCSO. Deputies discovered fentanyl during the search.

Towns County Sheriff’s officers charged Breitenbach with Felony Fentanyl Possession, Felony Fentanyl Possession with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.

When deputies later went back to the house on Byron Road, they discovered more heroin and a greater quantity of fentanyl.

“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have an outstanding partnership with those at the Towns County Sheriff’s Office and this investigation illustrates just that,” the CCSO said in a statement praising the TCSO’s assistance in the arrests. Towns and Clay Counties share a great deal of similarities, one of which is the presence of drug dealers in our neighborhoods.

Investigations like this one ought to serve as a caution to people who believe that our two agencies aren’t cooperating “hand in hand” to rid our communities of the evil that is illegal narcotics and who are utilizing our state borders as a shield.
