CCG – The Texas AG will still have to deal with further legal obstacles in the coming months, even with the accord reached on Tuesday that dismissed Paxton’s security fraud accusations.

TUSTIN, Texas — Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, is not done with problems yet.

The road ahead is a rough one, despite last year’s impeachment proceeding without a conviction and an agreement to drop his securities fraud charges.

First, a federal investigation of him is still ongoing. The case was taken over by U.S. Justice Department authorities in Washington, D.C., in 2023, taking over the corruption investigation into Paxton from the federal prosecutors in Texas who had been spearheading it.

The charges that Paxton utilized his position to assist his buddy and political backer, Austin real estate entrepreneur Nate Paul, are connected to some of the same problems that precipitated his impeachment.

Paxton is also being sued by whistleblowers in a different case. These are his ex-assistants, who claim he illegally fired them for reporting to the FBI their concerns over his interactions with Paul.

A disciplinary commission for the State Bar of Texas has filed a professional misconduct action against Paxton for his attempt to void the outcomes of the 2020 presidential election in four battleground states that President Joe Biden won. This is just one more legal quagmire.

It requests a penalty against Paxton, which a judge will decide upon and may include anything from private censure to Paxton giving up his legal license.
