CCG – A 16-year-old suspect named Thomas Roy Stein has been taken into custody by Florida authorities about the untimely death of 15-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller.
On March 17, while strolling to McDonald’s after seeing a movie with friends in Cape Coral, Kayla was shot and killed during an attempted robbery.
North Fort Myers resident Stein was charged with aggravated murder and made an appearance before a court on March 20.
His arraignment is set for April 8 after he was ordered to be jailed without bond. While Stein is being held, police are still looking for additional individuals who may have been involved in the crime.
Friends and relatives of Kayla are still in shock over the tragic event. Recalling Kayla as her best friend from childhood, Bailee Powell, a close friend of Kayla’s, expressed her astonishment and loss.
Described as gregarious and lively, Kayla was having a great time on her spring vacation when the tragedy happened.
As Kayla and her pals were making their way to McDonald’s, the tragic incident occurred when an SUV suddenly stopped close to them. Kayla was shot in the chest following a brawl that broke out as many criminals demanded money and possessions. At a nearby hospital, Kayla passed away from her wounds despite the efforts of emergency personnel.

Although the inquiry proved difficult at first for law enforcement, forensic specialists eventually found the suspect car, a silver Nissan Pathfinder that may be linked to Stein’s mother. After that, Stein was taken into custody.
Amid their efforts to locate and detain additional individuals, the Cape Coral Police Department has issued a call for help and is offering a reward of $3, 000 for information that leads to an arrest.
To pay for Kayla’s funeral costs, her family has established a GoFundMe, and so far, over $17,000 has been raised in donations. Kayla was regarded by her family as a joy and a light in their lives, therefore their loss of her sudden death has left them distraught and in grief for a lovely soul.
